Washing your face is as important as any other step of skincare routine.

Let’s understand and help you choose the best facewashes & cleansers for your skin type that are available in the market.

Gel based facewashes & cleansers

Yellow gel facewash on palm

As the name suggests, it comes in gel form(usually transparent but can also be a coloured gel).

You can create a nice foam after adding water to the gel by rubbing in between your palms. They work well for combination, acne and oily skin.

If you have sensitive or dry skin then you can look into facewashes that have hydrating ingredients like manuka honey, aloe vera and glycerin, like this Hydrating Gel Facewash with all these nice hydrating and moisture locking ingredients.

This one works really well for all skin types including sensitive skin as it combines gel

formula with manuka honey, aloe vera and glycerin, all perfect skin nourishing ingredients.

Bonus: This is fragrance free :)

Foam based facewashes & cleansers

If your skin feels dull after using your regular facewash or cleanser then you should use a foaming facewash or cleanser. Oily skin can be best friends with foaming skin facewashes and cleansers. They usually come in a foam press bottle and dispense as a foam in your hands.

Many people like them because they feel that their face is clean only after their facewash or cleanser creates a foamy texture, however, it’s not 100% true. There are other types of facewashes and cleansers that do the same job for other skin types. However, oily and acne prone skin can benefit from using foam based cleansers & facewashes for this reason as it would deep clean pores leaving behind no trace of oil or sebum on skin.

Cream based facewashes & cleansers

Cream based cleansers are exactly opposite of foam based cleansers. They are thick in consistency, have a creamy texture and don’t create lots of lather or foam when mixed with water.

They clean makeup and oil gently without drying out skin and especially best for skin types that are very dry, or have eczema, psoriasis and rosacea. If you feel that your skin feels tight and dry after using your regular cleanser or facewash then it’s time to try a cream cleanser.

Clay based facewashes & cleansers

Clays have always been an important beauty product in history even before science came into being. Clay masks are very popular today and there are some cleansers that have incorporated clays in their formulas. Clay cleansers are really good for oily and acne prone skin as they deep clean pores resulting in reduced sebum, whiteheads and blackheads that are usually difficult to clean with other types of cleansers.

Tip: However, if you want to reap maximum benefits of any type of clay then you should go for a clay mask once a week instead of using clay in a cleanser or facewash as it does not stay on your skin for more than 30 seconds.

Oil based facewashes & cleansers

These are made with a variety of light weight oils like jojoba, apricot kernel or rosehip oil. They are excellent for removing heavy, bridal or glam makeup. So if you’ve put layers of foundation, concealers then opt for an oil based cleanser to wash your face.

But oily and acne skin people should take this advice with a grain of salt. Oily and acne skin peeps should do a patch test as oil based cleansers can clog their pores & can lead to acne and blackheads especially if their oil cleanser is made up of heavy weight oils.
